4 easy ways to be eco-conscious
Would you like to join the green wave? There is a huge movement to repair some of the damage our planet has suffered over time.
While it’s difficult to think about change as one person when most of the problems are coming from big companies, we’d be in a better position if all “people” worked together to go green.
But how can you do your part? There are so many resources online that it can seem like you’re not doing anything if you’re not doing everything.
We’re here to help. Read on to learn how to go green in small steps you can do yourself.
1. Reduce consumption
Many people believe that recycling is the answer to ecology. While that’s important, it’s even more important not to use and buy so many new things. Not everything can be recycled, and the process of making new things is inherently wasteful.
Before you buy anything new, think about how much you need. Can you find the same used item?
Ideal for furniture, clothing and many small household items.
Many companies that contribute to the destruction of the ecosystem rely on your interest in fast fashion and new but low-quality items. Don’t give in to these temptations.
2. Buy carefully
If you must buy something new, be sure to buy ethically whenever possible.
Do the companies in question use exploited workshops? Do they talk about their ethics or their energy management? Do you have a commitment to the planet?
We can’t always vote with our wallets, but when we can, it’s a good idea to do so. Check how the company you are buying from interacts with the world and how it aligns with your ethics.
3. Close the water tap
It may seem simple, but the simple act of reducing water use is good for the environment. It’s common to leave the water running when brushing your teeth or doing the dishes, but how much less water would you waste if you carefully turned off the faucet?
Using water more sparingly will also help keep excess moisture out of your home, which can cause unsightly problems (“green” tip: learn more about meld here).
4. Walk, bike, or drive whenever possible
In the United States, it’s not always possible to walk to all destinations, but if you can, it’s better to try! The bike is another great option. Both products help your health and that of the planet!
If this is not possible, using public transport or even carpooling is another way to reduce your carbon footprint. Vehicles cause a lot of pollution, so reducing driving can be good for the planet!
You can go green today
Going green doesn’t have to mean giving up everything you love, which is a waste. All this to reduce the overall negative impact on the environment. Very few people are neutral, but you can mitigate the damage.
Use one of these simple tips to go green and start your journey to a greener lifestyle.
